Pisa is only about 15 miles away on the back
roads from Lucca and we had decided some time ago that we would cycle there one
day. As the weekend promised rain today
was the day. It was a relatively easy
ride there to join the madness that is Pisa around the ‘Field of Miracles’
where the leaning tower and the cathedral are located. It had to be seen but we explored the back
streets on our bikes immediately afterwards; after the open country of Tuscany in
the last few days the crowds of Pisa seemed quite oppressive. We
headed back to Lucca after a couple of hours of exploring although we will have
to return to go up the tower sometime in the future.
